Google Analytics
Connect your GA4 property to AIclicks to see AI assistant referral traffic and AI-powered sessions, users, and conversions in one AI Traffic dashboard.
Understand the GA4 integration
Connect your Google Analytics 4 (GA4) property to attribute web traffic and key events to AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, and Copilot.
AIclicks reads session and event data from your selected GA4 property and maps GA4 sessionSource and referrer patterns into LLM buckets.
The GA4 integration uses a read-only Google Analytics scope and stores a refresh token plus the selected GA4 property ID. AIclicks never modifies your GA4 data.
Prerequisites
Confirm these items before you connect GA4. AIclicks can only show AI Traffic once GA4 is correctly tracking your domain.
-
A GA4 property for the domain you track in AIclicks.
-
GA4 is actively collecting traffic for your domain (some live visits within the last days).
If GA4 is not yet receiving traffic, AI Traffic cards and charts may be empty even after a successful connection. Data appears only after GA4 records visits.
Create a GA4 property for your domain
In the Google Analytics setup wizard, create a GA4 property that matches the domain you added in AIclicks. Use your production domain (for example, www.acme.com) so reporting aligns with live traffic.
Install the GA4 tracking code
Add the GA4 tracking snippet to your website <head> using the Google tag, gtag.js, or your tag manager. Confirm that GA4 shows real-time users on your site before you connect AIclicks.
Connect GA4 in AIclicks
Use the Attribution section of the app to authorize Google Analytics and select the GA4 property to use for AI Traffic. You can go directly to the Attribution page at https://app.aiclicks.io/attribution/.
Open the Attribution page
Log in to the AIclicks app and go to AI traffic page from the navigation.
Start the Google Analytics connection
Click the Connect Google Analytics 4 button. AIclicks redirects you to the Google consent screen to authorize access.
Authorize read-only Analytics access
Sign in with a Google account that has access to the correct GA4 property. On the consent screen, grant the requested read-only Analytics scope. AIclicks stores a refresh token to fetch analytics data on an ongoing basis.
Select your GA4 property
After Google redirects you back, choose the GA4 property that tracks the same domain you monitor in AIclicks.
Complete connection and open the dashboard
Save your selection. AIclicks creates the connection and takes you back to the main app. From there, open AI Traffic at to see metrics based on your GA4 data.
First syncs may take a short time depending on your traffic volume. If you connected to a new GA4 property, you may only see data from the moment tracking began.
How AI Traffic attribution works
AIclicks derives AI assistant traffic from GA4 session and referrer data so you can see how much of your web engagement comes from LLMs.
-
AIclicks reads GA4 sessionSource values and referrer patterns.
-
Sources are mapped into buckets such as chatgpt, perplexity, claude, gemini, copilot.
Attribution depends on how GA4 records referrals. Some AI assistants or features may not set a distinct referrer, so not all AI-originating visits can be identified.
Explore the AI Traffic dashboard
After a successful connection and initial sync, analyze AI assistant traffic for your selected GA4 property.
Summary metrics
At the top of the dashboard, AIclicks shows key cards based on GA4 data filtered for AI assistant traffic:
-
Sessions attributed to AI assistants.
-
Users who arrived from AI assistants.
-
Page views from those sessions.
These values update when you change the date range or trigger a manual sync.
LLM breakdown and timeline
Scroll down to see how different AI assistants contribute to your traffic:
-
LLM sources list with metrics per assistant (for example, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Other LLM).
-
LLM traffic timeline chart showing AI-attributed sessions over time, segmented by assistant bucket.
Use these views to compare the relative impact of each assistant on your site.
Content, audience, and behavior insights
Additional sections on the dashboard provide more context about AI-driven visitors:
-
Top pages: Landing and content pages that receive the most AI assistant traffic.
-
Top locations: Countries or regions where AI-driven visitors originate.
-
Device breakdown: Distribution of AI-attributed sessions across device types.
-
Top browsers: Browsers used by visitors coming from AI assistants.
-
Key events and conversions by LLM: Events and conversions (such as signups or purchases) attributed to each assistant based on GA4 event data.
Use these reports to connect AI search visibility with on-site engagement and outcomes.
Dashboard controls and actions
Use the controls on the page to refine the analysis window, refresh data, and manage your GA4 connection.
-
Date range selector: Switch between 7 days, 30 days, and 90 days to focus on recent performance or longer trends.
-
Manual sync: Trigger a sync to pull the latest GA4 data on demand rather than waiting for the next scheduled fetch.
-
Disconnect: Remove the GA4 connection if you need to change properties, rotate Google accounts, or stop sharing analytics data with AIclicks.
